Uttar Pradesh programme combines public-service activities with a month-long outreach campaign linked to Modi’s 25 years in public life
GTNS , SEPTEMBER 17, 2026 , VARANASI, UTTAR PRADESH — Varanasi became the centre of a major public-service programme on Thursday as the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ was launched to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday and commemorate his 25 years in public life.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath participated in the programme in Modi’s parliamentary constituency, where a series of service and public-engagement activities have been planned as part of the month-long campaign. Reports said the campaign will run from September 17 to October 17.
VARANASI AT THE HEART OF THE CAMPAIGN
The launch in Varanasi forms part of a wider programme being organised across the country. The city has also hosted other birthday-related activities, including religious programmes and a motorcycle journey connecting Varanasi with Vadnagar, Modi’s birthplace in Gujarat.
The campaign is being presented by organisers as an opportunity to translate the occasion into activities centred on public service, welfare and community participation.
FOCUS ON SERVICE AND PUBLIC OUTREACH
In Uttar Pradesh, the initiative is also being linked with the state government’s welfare and governance outreach. Reports indicate that programmes associated with the campaign include efforts to connect beneficiaries with government schemes, along with the launch of a margin-money loan portal and distribution of cheques and toolkits to beneficiaries.
The campaign comes alongside the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 programme, which also begins on September 17 and continues until October 17, with the central government emphasising citizen participation in cleanliness activities.
A MONTH OF PUBLIC ACTIVITIES
With Varanasi serving as one of the principal locations for the birthday programme, the coming weeks are expected to see continued public-service and outreach activities across Uttar Pradesh and other parts of the country.
The Varanasi launch therefore places the emphasis on community engagement and service activities rather than a single-day birthday event, as the month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan gets underway.
