‘Seva Mera Yogdan’ programme links environmental action with citizen participation and community responsibility
GTNS, SEPTEMBER 17, 2026, BHUBANESWAR — A tree-planting programme in Bhubaneswar on Thursday brought environmental responsibility into the centre of a wider public-service campaign being held under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan.
The programme, titled ‘Seva Mera Yogdan’, saw participation in a plantation drive aimed at encouraging citizens to connect everyday community activities with the broader idea of public service.
The campaign is being organised around Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday and highlights his 25-year public-life journey, according to the organisers. The activities are intended to encourage people to contribute through service-oriented initiatives.
ENVIRONMENT AS A FORM OF SERVICE
The Bhubaneswar programme placed particular emphasis on the role of trees and environmental protection in community welfare.
The message from the organisers was that protecting natural resources can become a practical form of service when citizens participate directly rather than leaving environmental responsibility solely to institutions.
Tree plantation was consequently presented not merely as a symbolic activity, but as an avenue through which individuals can make a continuing contribution to their surroundings.
CITIZEN PARTICIPATION IN FOCUS
The initiative also connected local participation with the broader Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. Organisers stressed that large development goals are supported by numerous smaller contributions made by citizens at the community level.
The campaign seeks to encourage participation in activities that strengthen social responsibility, environmental awareness and public engagement.
With the #SevaMeraYogdan message, the organisers called for wider public involvement and urged citizens to turn service activities into a sustained community movement.
The Bhubaneswar plantation drive thus brought together two themes — environmental stewardship and voluntary public participation — as part of the ongoing Seva Sankalp Abhiyan.
