Deputy CM K. V. Singh Deo holds high-level review with Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari and senior departmental officials
GTNS ,SEPTEMBER 24, 2026 ,Bhubaneswar: With heavy rainfall and flooding affecting several parts of Odisha, the state government has intensified efforts to assess damage and speed up restoration of critical infrastructure.
Deputy Chief Minister K. V. Singh Deo held a high-level meeting with Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari and senior officials from the Energy, Information Technology and Water Resources departments. The meeting focused on ensuring prompt assessment of flood-related damage and accelerating reconstruction of affected physical infrastructure.
The review comes amid heightened monitoring of the state’s weather situation following a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal. The Odisha government has already directed departments and district administrations to maintain close coordination and prioritise the protection of life and property.
Focus on Rapid Damage Assessment
The meeting placed emphasis on obtaining a clear assessment of damage caused to public infrastructure so that restoration work can be taken up without unnecessary delay.
Road connectivity, water-management infrastructure and essential services are among the areas requiring close coordination during the post-flood restoration process. The Water Resources Department has also been monitoring river and reservoir levels and vulnerable embankment locations amid continuing rainfall.
Energy Infrastructure Also Under Review
Damage to electricity infrastructure can disrupt essential services in flood-affected areas. The Energy Department has therefore been brought into the coordinated review, with restoration of affected power infrastructure forming part of the broader reconstruction effort.
Officials have been asked to maintain coordination so that essential services can be restored quickly wherever infrastructure has been affected.
Government Intensifies Disaster Response
Odisha has maintained round-the-clock emergency arrangements in vulnerable districts, with ODRAF, NDRF and Fire Services personnel kept ready for rescue and emergency operations. District and block-level emergency control rooms have also been directed to remain operational.
The latest meeting reflects the government’s focus on moving from immediate disaster response towards systematic damage assessment and reconstruction.
As weather conditions continue to be monitored, authorities are expected to keep assessing infrastructure on the ground and prioritise restoration in areas where roads, water systems, electricity networks and other public assets have suffered damage.
