September 06/26/GTNS New Delhi Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s journey to Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) on Saturday took an unusual turn as he chose the Delhi Metro to reach the institution for its centenary celebrations.
Rather than travelling only through the conventional VIP route, Modi boarded the Metro and interacted with commuters during the journey. Students and young passengers became the focus of several conversations, turning an ordinary public-transport journey into an informal interaction with the Prime Minister.
The Metro ride came on Teachers’ Day, when SRCC was celebrating 100 years of its academic journey. Established in 1926, the Delhi University institution has produced generations of professionals, entrepreneurs, administrators and public figures.
One of the most talked-about moments during the journey involved a schoolboy who quietly told Modi that he wanted to become like him. The brief exchange highlighted the personal impact of meeting a national leader in an everyday setting.
The Prime Minister also interacted with other passengers and students, creating a relaxed atmosphere inside the Metro coach. The journey offered commuters an unexpected opportunity to speak directly with the Prime Minister away from the formal environment of a public function.

At SRCC, Modi reflected on the institution’s century-long contribution to education and nation-building. He also recalled his earlier visit to the college in 2013, when he was serving as Gujarat Chief Minister. His return after 13 years gave the centenary celebrations an additional significance.
During his address, Modi spoke about India’s economic transformation, the role of young people and the country’s future ambitions. He also praised SRCC’s alumni, referring to them using the contemporary Gen Z expression “OGs” to underline their continuing influence.
The Prime Minister’s Metro journey and his appearance at SRCC therefore carried two contrasting but connected messages. The Metro represented everyday India and direct public interaction, while the college centenary represented education, achievement and the preparation of future generations.
For many commuters, the journey was memorable not because of a formal announcement, but because of the unexpected sight of the Prime Minister travelling alongside ordinary passengers.
