Three-day Yashobhoomi event brings global semiconductor companies, investors, researchers and policymakers together around India’s expanding chip ecosystem
GTNS , SEPTEMBER 17, 2026, NEW DELHI — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated the fifth edition of SEMICON India 2026 at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi, opening a three-day industry gathering focused on the development of India’s semiconductor and electronics ecosystem.
The September 17–19 event has brought together companies, technology specialists, investors, policymakers, researchers, start-ups and academic institutions involved in different parts of the semiconductor value chain. More than 600 companies and representatives from 52 countries are participating, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
This year’s conference is being held under the theme “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem”, reflecting a broader focus that goes beyond chip fabrication to include design, materials, equipment, packaging, electronics manufacturing and complete technology systems.
FROM CHIP DESIGN TO COMPLETE SYSTEMS
A major feature of SEMICON India 2026 is the “Sand to Silicon to Systems” Value Chain Experience, designed to showcase how different stages of the semiconductor industry connect—from raw materials and specialised equipment to chip design, fabrication, advanced packaging and electronics systems.
The programme includes international country pavilions, state-level participation, a start-up pavilion, an innovation showcase and workforce-development initiatives. Six country pavilions represent Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Singapore and Sweden.
The conference schedule also includes country roundtables, technical and industry sessions, discussions on display technologies, women’s leadership and opportunities for cooperation across the global semiconductor supply chain.
INDIA’S SEMICONDUCTOR PUSH
The event comes as India seeks to expand its presence across the semiconductor value chain. The government launched the Semicon India Programme in 2022 to support semiconductor manufacturing and related capabilities, including fabrication, packaging, testing, design and other parts of the electronics ecosystem.
Government and industry discussions at the event are consequently focusing not only on manufacturing capacity but also on investment, research, skilled manpower, technology partnerships and the development of supporting industries.
The fifth edition of SEMICON India is being jointly organised under the India Semiconductor Mission, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and SEMI, with the event serving as a platform for industry-government engagement and international collaboration.
With the conference continuing until September 19, attention is expected to remain on new partnerships, investment announcements, technology demonstrations and the next phase of India’s semiconductor development.
