Mumbai, GTNS/September, 09/26 : Food safety authorities in Maharashtra have taken action against three food establishments operating at ISKCON’s Hare Krishna Land in Juhu, citing serious concerns over compliance with food safety and hygiene requirements.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) suspended the licences of Govinda’s Restaurant, Food Services Restaurant and another food establishment located on the premises following an inspection conducted on September 3.
Officials said the action was linked to alleged violations of food safety and hygiene norms observed during the inspection. The suspension means the concerned establishments cannot continue operations under the affected licences until the regulatory issues are addressed, subject to the applicable process.
The development has put renewed focus on food safety standards at large religious and institutional premises, where food is prepared and served to significant numbers of people.
Authorities are expected to examine whether the establishments have taken corrective measures and complied with the requirements laid down under food safety regulations.
The action also serves as a reminder that restaurants and food service facilities, irrespective of their institutional or religious affiliation, are required to maintain prescribed standards relating to hygiene, food handling, storage and overall safety.
The matter has attracted attention because the establishments are located within the prominent ISKCON complex in Juhu. Further action will depend on the findings of the authorities and compliance by the concerned establishments.
