Bhubaneswar, GTNS, 08/26 : Speculation over a possible expansion of the Union Council of Ministers has gained momentum, with political circles closely watching developments in New Delhi.
Amid the growing discussions, Odisha has emerged as one of the states that could see increased representation in the Union Cabinet. Sources in political circles suggest that two to three MPs from Odisha may be considered for ministerial responsibilities if a reshuffle takes place.
The possibility has triggered fresh discussions within the state’s political landscape, particularly over which MPs could find a place in the central government. Seniority, organisational experience, regional representation and the party’s broader political strategy are expected to play a role in the selection.
Among the names being discussed in political circles is Pradeep Purohit, whose name has figured in conversations surrounding possible representation from Odisha.
However, there has been no official confirmation from the Prime Minister’s Office or the Bharatiya Janata Party regarding the timing or the names likely to be included in any cabinet exercise.
Odisha’s political importance has grown significantly following the BJP’s strong performance in the state. With the party seeking to strengthen its presence nationally as well as maintain its organisational base in Odisha, greater representation from the state could carry both political and administrative significance.
If the expansion goes ahead, the inclusion of additional Odisha MPs could further strengthen the state’s voice in the Union government and potentially increase its role in discussions over development, infrastructure, industry and other major policy priorities.
For now, the cabinet expansion remains a subject of intense political speculation, with attention firmly focused on whether Odisha will receive two or three new ministerial berths.
