Family quarrel allegedly escalates into violent confrontation; police and forensic team investigate suspected hunting explosive
GTNS , SEPTEMBER 16, 2026 ,BHUBANESWAR: A violent confrontation between two brothers ended in tragedy at Mahul village under Chandaka police station limits in Bhubaneswar, where a bomb blast claimed the life of one brother and left another critically injured.
The deceased has been identified as Mohan Padhi, while his younger brother Madan Padhi suffered severe injuries in the explosion. One of Madan’s hands was reportedly severed in the blast.
According to preliminary information emerging from the investigation, the incident followed a quarrel between the two brothers. Police are examining the circumstances that led to the use of explosives during the confrontation.
EXPLOSIVE ALLEGEDLY KEPT FOR WILDLIFE HUNTING
A key line of the preliminary investigation is the alleged presence of a bomb or explosive device at the house for hunting wild animals.
Investigators are now trying to determine where the explosive came from, how it was stored and what exactly happened immediately before the blast.
Police are also examining whether the explosive was prepared locally or obtained from another source.
ONE BROTHER KILLED
Mohan Padhi sustained fatal injuries in the explosion.
His younger brother Madan was seriously injured and initially rushed to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar for emergency treatment.
After receiving initial medical care, Madan was subsequently shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, for further treatment.
SENIOR POLICE OFFICERS REACH SPOT
Following the incident, Bhubaneswar DCP, Zone-VI ACP and Chandaka police personnel reached Mahul village and began an investigation.
A scientific team was also deployed at the crime scene.
Investigators collected samples and other material evidence from the site as part of the forensic examination.

The scientific examination is expected to help investigators establish the nature of the explosive and reconstruct the sequence of the blast.
Police are examining the physical evidence along with statements and other information gathered during the initial inquiry.
