Three-day Yashobhoomi convention brings the spotlight to chip design, manufacturing, electronics and technology partnerships
GTNS ,SEPTEMBER 17, 2026 ,NEW DELHI — India’s semiconductor ambitions moved into sharper focus on Thursday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the fifth edition of Semicon India 2026 at the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre in New Delhi, opening a three-day industry gathering centred on the country’s expanding electronics and chip ecosystem.
The inauguration brought together representatives from the semiconductor, electronics, technology and manufacturing sectors, placing India’s efforts to build a broader semiconductor value chain at the centre of discussions.
Rather than focusing only on chip production, the convention is addressing the wider ecosystem required to support the industry — including semiconductor design, manufacturing, advanced packaging, equipment, materials and electronics systems.
FROM CHIPMAKING TO A WIDER TECHNOLOGY ECOSYSTEM
The event comes as India seeks to develop capabilities across multiple stages of the semiconductor supply chain. Industry participation at Semicon India 2026 is expected to provide a platform for technology companies, manufacturers and policymakers to discuss investment, partnerships and supply-chain development.
The three-day programme at Yashobhoomi is also designed to showcase developments in semiconductor technology and their links with India’s growing electronics manufacturing base.
The broader emphasis reflects the increasing connection between semiconductor capacity and sectors such as telecommunications, automobiles, consumer electronics, defence technology and advanced computing.
GLOBAL INDUSTRY PRESENCE
Semicon India 2026 is bringing international participation to New Delhi, with companies and technology stakeholders from several major semiconductor markets taking part in the convention.
Country pavilions and industry showcases are providing space for businesses and technology organisations to present capabilities, explore partnerships and engage with India’s emerging semiconductor ecosystem.
For India, the event also serves as a platform to position domestic semiconductor development within a larger global technology and manufacturing network.
THREE DAYS OF INDUSTRY ENGAGEMENT
The convention will continue through September 19, with discussions, exhibitions and technology demonstrations covering different parts of the semiconductor and electronics value chain.
