NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has used India’s latest economic performance to mount a fresh political attack on critics of the government.
Addressing a gathering in Delhi, Modi highlighted the country’s reported 7.8% GDP growth and questioned those who remain sceptical about India’s economic trajectory. His remarks indicate that economic performance is emerging as an important political weapon for the ruling establishment.
The government is likely to use growth figures to strengthen its development narrative, while the Opposition is expected to focus on whether headline economic numbers are translating into jobs, incomes and broader benefits for citizens.
