Six-medal tally includes four silvers and two bronze after another productive day

SEPTEMBER 21, 2026 , NEW DELHI : India’s medal campaign at the 2026 Asian Games gathered pace on Monday, with four more medals added to the country’s tally through performances in shooting and mixed martial arts.
The latest results took India’s overall haul to six medals — four silver and two bronze, although the country was still waiting for its first gold of the Games.
Shooting once again emerged as one of India’s strongest medal-producing disciplines. The men’s 10m air rifle competition delivered three podium finishes, with Himanshu Dhillon and Rudrankksh Patil taking individual silver and bronze respectively, while India also secured silver in the team event alongside Parth Mane.
Another significant result came from Suchika Tariyal, who became India’s first Asian Games medallist in mixed martial arts. She won bronze in the women’s traditional 60kg category, creating a new milestone for the country in the sport.
Tariyal’s route to the medal was particularly unusual. Her semi-final ended level, but a technical weight-related rule prevented her from progressing to the final, leaving her with bronze.
India’s results across shooting and MMA have therefore provided two distinct sources of momentum early in the Games. The shooting range has produced multiple medals, while Tariyal’s performance has opened a new chapter for Indian participation in MMA at the Asian Games.
With competition continuing, India’s attention now turns to converting its strong start into further podium finishes across the remaining disciplines.
