NEW DELHI — GTNS, SEPTEMBER 10, 2026 — Security arrangements across the national capital have been significantly strengthened ahead of the 18th BRICS Summit, with extensive deployment of security forces and surveillance systems around Bharat Mandapam, key diplomatic zones, VVIP routes and hotels hosting foreign delegations.
Between 15,000 and 25,000 security personnel, including Delhi Police, paramilitary forces and NSG commandos, are being deployed at sensitive locations across the city. Nearly 200 companies of paramilitary forces have also been mobilised as part of the multi-layered security arrangements.
Authorities have intensified surveillance with around 500 additional CCTV cameras installed at sensitive locations. Areas around Tughlak Road, Pragati Maidan and Chanakyapuri, along with other important landmarks and movement corridors, are being monitored round the clock.
Security agencies are also coordinating closely to secure the movement of visiting heads of state, senior officials and diplomatic delegations during the two-day summit.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to host several prominent leaders in New Delhi, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Brazil will be represented by Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, while leaders and senior representatives from other BRICS members and partner countries are expected to participate in the summit programme.

Traffic and security restrictions are also expected to affect movement across several parts of the capital during the summit period. Commuters have been advised to monitor official advisories and plan journeys with additional travel time.
The heightened security comes as New Delhi prepares to host one of the year’s most significant international diplomatic gatherings, with the summit expected to focus on cooperation among emerging economies, global governance, trade, development, technology and strategic issues.
With international delegations arriving in the capital, Delhi has effectively moved into high-alert mode ahead of the September 12–13 BRICS Summit.
