Chief Minister meets Odisha Assembly Speaker during her treatment and speaks with doctors about her health

SEPTEMBER 24, 2026 , BHUBANESWAR: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi visited AIIMS Bhubaneswar to meet Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy, who is undergoing treatment at the hospital following illness.
During the visit, the Chief Minister enquired about the Speaker’s health and spoke with the doctors attending to her. He also expressed his wishes for her early recovery and continued good health.

Majhi took an update on Padhy’s health during his interaction at AIIMS. He also expressed his hope that she would recover soon and return to normal duties.
The Chief Minister invoked the blessings of Lord Jagannath for the Speaker’s speedy recovery and well-being.
Speaker undergoing treatment at AIIMS
Surama Padhy is the serving Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly. The official Assembly website lists her as Speaker since June 20, 2024.
Her hospitalisation comes during an Assembly session that has already witnessed heated exchanges between the treasury benches and Opposition over several issues.
The Assembly session is scheduled to continue until October 3, according to reports.
Wishes for early recovery
The Chief Minister’s meeting at AIIMS was focused on enquiring about the Speaker’s health and conveying his wishes for her recovery.
As the Assembly continues its scheduled business, attention also remains on the Speaker’s health and her return to her constitutional responsibilities.
