New Delhi, GTNS | September 09, 2026: A nationwide enforcement drive against the illegal narcotics trade has yielded a major haul, with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) carrying out eight intelligence-based operations during the last fortnight and recovering close to 740 kilograms of prohibited substances.
The coordinated actions led to the arrest of 13 suspected traffickers under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, as authorities intensified efforts to disrupt the transportation and distribution of illegal drugs.
The combined seizures comprised approximately 709.6 kg of ganja, 24.5 kg of high-quality hydroponic ganja and 5 kg of charas, according to the enforcement details.
One of the largest recoveries came during an operation near Raipur on September 8, following specific intelligence inputs received by DRI officials. Two trucks travelling from Visakhapatnam were intercepted on the Old Dhamtari Road.
During the inspection, officers discovered 61 packets concealed inside 10 sacks placed in the loading compartments of the vehicles. Preliminary field examination confirmed the presence of ganja in the consignment.
The operation resulted in the seizure of 375.95 kg of ganja, while both trucks were also taken into custody as part of the investigation. Four persons were arrested in connection with the seizure and are being proceeded against under the NDPS Act.
The Raipur interception is part of a wider enforcement effort in which the DRI has relied on intelligence inputs to identify suspected trafficking movements and intercept consignments before they reach their destinations.
The scale of the seizures during the fortnight highlights the continuing challenge posed by organised narcotics trafficking and the importance of intelligence-led enforcement across transportation corridors.
The latest operations reinforce the DRI’s focus on targeting the supply chain of illegal drugs through surveillance, interception and legal action against those involved in their movement.
