New Delhi ,GTNS | September 09, 2026 : India has stepped up its engagement in the global race for next-generation telecommunications by backing an international Call to Action focused on 6G leadership and network security.
The move was announced during engagements held alongside the G20 Innovation Ministerial Meeting in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. India joined more than 20 countries supporting a common approach to the development of future communication systems.
At the centre of the initiative is the idea of creating open, secure, interoperable and resilient networks. Such cooperation is expected to become increasingly important as countries prepare for a new generation of connectivity driven by advanced digital technologies.
India’s Department of Telecommunications will take the initiative forward and work on strengthening international cooperation in the 6G domain.
The global push comes at a time when telecommunications networks are becoming critical to economies, public services and national infrastructure. Security, reliability and compatibility between different systems are therefore emerging as major priorities in the development of future networks.
India’s participation also reflects its ambition to contribute to international discussions on telecommunications standards and the architecture of emerging digital infrastructure.
The 6G era is expected to bring faster and more intelligent connectivity, supporting technologies and applications that require highly reliable networks.
With countries increasingly working together on the principles governing next-generation communications, India’s latest move places greater emphasis on ensuring that future connectivity develops with security, resilience and global interoperability at its core.
