Islamabad, INDIA , GTNS | September 09, 2026: Pakistan has issued a fresh warning following missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia by Yemen-based Houthi forces, saying its newly established defence arrangement could be activated if the attacks are deemed an act of aggression against a member state.
Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said the alliance is designed around collective security and could become operational if Saudi Arabia faces direct aggression. His comments came shortly after the reported Houthi strikes against several locations across the Kingdom.
The attacks reportedly involved missiles and drones aimed at Saudi cities and important economic and energy infrastructure. At least 73 civilians were reported injured, according to reports following the strikes.
The latest escalation has heightened concerns about the possibility of the Yemen conflict spilling further into the region. Saudi Arabia remains a key regional player, while Pakistan’s warning adds a new strategic dimension to the developing situation.
Asif stressed the defensive nature of the arrangement, indicating that its objective is to protect member states rather than initiate hostilities. However, continued attacks on Saudi territory could test the alliance’s collective-defence commitments.
The developments are being closely watched across the Middle East, particularly because any wider military confrontation could affect regional security, energy infrastructure and international trade routes.
