BHUBANESWAR, SEPTEMBER 4: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has put integrity, discipline and responsible use of police power at the centre of his message to Odisha’s newly inducted Sub-Inspectors, calling on them to protect citizens while maintaining a firm stand against crime.Speaking at the passing-out ceremony of the 13th batch of Cadet Sub-Inspectors at the Biju Patnaik State Police Academy in Bhubaneswar on Friday, Majhi said the authority that comes with the police uniform must be exercised with responsibility and in the larger interest of society.The Chief Minister cautioned the young officers against corruption and misuse of official authority. He asked them to ensure that the innocent are protected and that offenders face action under the law.“Service and security” should remain the guiding principle for the officers, Majhi said, stressing that effective policing must also remain sensitive to the needs of weaker and vulnerable sections of society.The Chief Minister also underlined the changing nature of policing, particularly with the rise of cybercrime and technology-enabled fraud. He called for greater adoption of SMART POLICING, with technology and modern investigative methods becoming an integral part of policing.A total of 336 newly trained Sub-Inspectors, including 70 women officers, formally joined the Odisha Police during the ceremony after completing two years of indoor and outdoor training.Majhi said strengthening the police force was essential for maintaining peace and creating a secure environment for Odisha’s future economic and industrial growth. He highlighted the creation of 17,794 new police posts over the past two years and said 5,817 posts have already been filled.The Chief Minister also reiterated the government’s target of making Odisha a drug-free state by 2029, signalling a continued focus on combating drug-related activities and protecting young people from substance abuse.The ceremony also recognised cadets who excelled during training. P. Nalini Rao, who secured the highest marks, received the Governor’s Medal, trophy and a cash award of ₹10,000.DGP Binaytosh Mishra urged the newly inducted officers to perform their duties with courage, honesty and dedication. He also stressed the importance of technology-driven policing in confronting emerging crimes.
