J&K Police say accused allegedly provided shelter, logistics and movement assistance to terrorists travelling through the Pir Panjal region

SEPTEMBER 19, 2026 , JAMMU — Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested three men in Rajouri district in connection with an alleged logistical support network linked to the banned Pakistan-based terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
The arrests followed an investigation into a terror-support module operating in the Pir Panjal region. Police identified the accused as Mohammad Azam, Zakir Hussain and Mohammad Mushtaq, all residents of the Kot Charwal area of Rajouri.
POLICE ALLEGE LONG-TERM LOGISTICAL ROLE
According to police, the three accused had allegedly remained active for several years and provided support to multiple terrorist groups.
Investigators allege that they arranged shelter and logistical assistance and helped terrorists move through the Rajouri-Reasi belt and the Pir Panjal region towards Shopian in south Kashmir.
Police also said their alleged role in assisting terrorists who were subsequently killed in an encounter at Chassana in Reasi district in 2023 emerged during the investigation.
The investigation is continuing, and the allegations against the arrested individuals remain subject to the legal process.
IED AND OTHER WEAPONS RECOVERED
The investigation led security agencies to recover explosive and firearms-related material.
Police said an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was recovered from a forest area adjoining the accused’s village following information obtained during the investigation.
Further recoveries reportedly included a pistol, magazine and ammunition, along with two Chinese grenades. Police said the material had allegedly been kept for possible future use.
MOVEMENT ROUTE UNDER INVESTIGATION
The case has drawn attention to the logistical networks that investigators say can support terrorist movement across difficult terrain.
According to police, the accused allegedly acted as guides and facilitated movement through the Rajouri-Reasi districts and across the Pir Panjal range before onward movement towards Shopian.
Investigators are now examining whether the network involved additional associates, safe locations, financiers or other logistical links.
INVESTIGATION NOT OVER
Police have indicated that the investigation is continuing to establish the complete structure of the alleged support network.
The focus is expected to include identifying other individuals who may have provided shelter, transportation, communications or other forms of assistance to terrorist groups.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed the complete extent of the network or all individuals who may be connected to it.
SECURITY SIGNIFICANCE
The arrests come amid continuing counter-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir, where security agencies have increasingly focused not only on armed militants but also on alleged overground-worker and logistical networks supporting their movement.
The latest Rajouri case illustrates the investigative emphasis on disrupting the infrastructure that authorities allege enables terrorists to move between the Jammu region and the Kashmir Valley.
For now, the three arrested men remain accused persons, and the allegations made by police will be tested through the ongoing investigation and judicial process.
