BHUBANESWAR ,GTNS/September, 09/26 : The arrival of rescued orangutans at Nandankanan Zoological Park has drawn attention among wildlife enthusiasts, as the rare animals begin adapting to their new surroundings after being brought from Balasore.
The orangutans are currently under close observation at the zoo, where their health, food intake and behaviour are being monitored by veterinary and animal-care teams.
According to the information available, the animals have been responding well to a variety of food items. Their diet includes fruits along with preparations such as Cerelac and mashed potato, while milk is also being provided as part of their nutritional care.
Zoo authorities are expected to maintain a controlled routine for the animals during the initial period of their stay. Such monitoring is important after a wildlife rescue, particularly when animals are being moved into a new environment.
The orangutans’ presence at Nandankanan has also generated interest because the species is not native to Odisha. Their arrival has therefore prompted questions about their origin, circumstances surrounding their presence in Balasore and the circumstances that led to their rescue.
Forest and wildlife officials are continuing to assess the animals while ensuring that their immediate welfare remains the priority. Further decisions regarding their long-term care are expected to depend on veterinary assessments and official investigation.
