BHUBANESWAR: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Odisha has entered another important phase, with the voter-list exercise coming up for discussion with representatives of recognised political parties ahead of a statewide special campaign beginning October 7.

The latest process provides an opportunity for eligible voters whose names were left out during the SIR exercise to seek inclusion, while young citizens who completed 18 years of age by October 1, 2026 can also apply for enrolment.

The three-day special campaign will be conducted across Odisha on October 7, 8 and 9. Eligible persons can approach their Booth Level Officer (BLO) and submit Form-6 for inclusion in the electoral roll.

The issue of SIR and voter-list verification was also taken up during the all-party consultation held by the election authorities, where political representatives were briefed on the ongoing revision exercise and the need to ensure that eligible voters are not excluded.

As part of the verification process, lists relating to voters identified as dead, shifted, absent or duplicated during the revision exercise are proposed to be made available through the CEO Odisha and concerned district websites.

These lists will provide an opportunity for verification. If the name of an eligible elector has been wrongly treated as an exclusion category, the concerned person can submit a claim or objection through the prescribed process.

Recognised political parties will also receive the relevant lists for verification. Their representatives can examine the records and submit claims or objections wherever necessary.

The exercise is intended to address two sides of electoral-roll management—ensuring that genuine voters are included while questionable or outdated entries are identified for correction through due procedure.

District-level election machinery has also been instructed to facilitate applications from eligible voters who were left out during SIR and from newly eligible young voters. BLOs have been trained to guide applicants through the enrolment process.

The authorities have urged eligible citizens not to miss the special campaign dates. Young people who completed 18 years by October 1, along with eligible voters whose names were not included during SIR, can use the opportunity to seek enrolment.

The latest initiative comes as Odisha prepares its electoral machinery for the 2027 Panchayat and Urban Local Body elections, making the accuracy and inclusiveness of voter records an important part of the preparatory process.

The election authorities have stressed that the objective is to maintain an updated and transparent electoral roll while providing a mechanism for genuine voters to raise their claims.
