BHUBANESWAR: The BJP has intensified its organisational activity in Odisha with the return of D. Purandeswari as the party’s state in-charge, accompanied by co-in-charge Dr Swadesh Singh, as preparations gather pace for the upcoming panchayat and urban local body elections.

During their Odisha visit, Purandeswari and Singh held discussions with senior party leaders and organisational functionaries on strengthening the BJP network at the grassroots and improving coordination between the government and the party organisation.
CM Mohan Charan Majhi meets BJP leadership
Amid the organisational discussions, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi met the visiting BJP leadership at the Chief Minister’s residence. The meeting assumes political significance as the party works to strengthen coordination between the state government and its organisational machinery.
The interaction comes at a time when the BJP is seeking to consolidate its presence across districts and prepare its cadre for the next phase of local-level electoral activity.
Focus on grassroots organisation
The two BJP leaders have been engaging with state office-bearers, district presidents, district in-charges and other organisational leaders to assess the party’s functioning and future programmes.
The emphasis has been on taking the organisation deeper into the grassroots, improving coordination among district units and ensuring that government initiatives and party programmes reach the public effectively.
Local elections add urgency
With panchayat and municipal elections approaching, organisational preparedness has become a major priority for the ruling BJP.
The party is also continuing its Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, launched on September 17 and scheduled to continue until October 17. Programmes such as Seva Jyoti, planned for October 7, are also part of the broader organisational campaign.
For Purandeswari, the Odisha assignment marks a return to the state leadership structure after previously serving as Odisha BJP in-charge from 2020 to 2022.
The latest round of meetings, including the interaction with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, indicates that the BJP is placing renewed emphasis on maintaining a close link between government functioning, party organisation and grassroots mobilisation as the state moves towards the next electoral test.
Political watch
The real test for the new organisational leadership will be whether the current momentum can be converted into stronger district-level coordination and an effective grassroots campaign before the local elections.
