National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), the Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Mines, has transferred a record ₹1,083.06 crore dividend to the Government of India for the financial year 2025-26, following its strongest financial performance during the year.

The company’s total dividend distribution for FY2025-26 stood at ₹2,112.12 crore, equivalent to 230 per cent of the paid-up equity share capital based on shares with a face value of ₹5 each. NALCO said the payout is the highest in its history.

The Government’s share of the dividend was formally handed over by NALCO Chairman and Managing Director Brijendra Pratap Singh to Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy during an investor roadshow on the Angul Aluminium Park held in Kolkata on September 28. Ministry of Mines Secretary Keshav Chandra and senior NALCO and ministry officials were present.

Record dividend follows strong earnings

The dividend comes after NALCO reported a Profit After Tax of ₹5,815.76 crore for FY2025-26.

The company’s annual performance also included record levels across several operational indicators. NALCO reported revenue from operations of around ₹17,843 crore and EBITDA of approximately ₹8,613 crore for the year.

The company’s production performance included about 77.01 lakh tonnes of bauxite excavation, 23 lakh tonnes of alumina hydrate production, 22.75 lakh tonnes of calcined alumina and 4.72 lakh tonnes of aluminium cast metal production. Coal production and power generation also reached high levels during the year.

Four dividend payments during FY26

NALCO’s total FY26 dividend of ₹2,112.12 crore comprises three interim dividends and a final dividend.

The three interim dividends together amounted to ₹1,928.46 crore, while the final dividend added another ₹183.66 crore, taking the total payout to the reported record level.

The Government of India, as the company’s largest shareholder, consequently received ₹1,083.06 crore from the annual distribution.

Kolkata roadshow also highlights Angul expansion

The dividend handover took place alongside an investor roadshow focused on the Angul Aluminium Park, connecting NALCO’s financial performance with its broader expansion plans in Odisha.

NALCO has been pursuing capacity expansion across aluminium production, captive power generation and mining. Its announced projects include expansion of the alumina refinery at Damanjodi, development of the Pottangi bauxite mines and additional aluminium smelter and captive power capacity at Angul.

The company has also outlined initiatives involving critical minerals, renewable energy, digital transformation and greater utilisation of industrial waste as part of its longer-term strategy.

Dividend adds to Centre’s non-tax revenue stream

For the Union government, the ₹1,083.06 crore payment represents a direct dividend receipt from a government-controlled enterprise.

The payment also illustrates the fiscal contribution of profitable central public sector enterprises through shareholder returns, alongside their operational role in sectors considered important for India’s mineral and aluminium value chain.

Focus now shifts to expansion

NALCO enters the next phase with its FY2025-26 financial and operational results providing the backdrop for planned investments.

The company has identified expansion of mining, refining, smelting and captive power capacity as important components of its future growth strategy. The Damanjodi refinery expansion and development of additional mineral resources are among the projects being pursued.

The latest dividend therefore comes at a point when NALCO is simultaneously returning a record amount to shareholders and preparing for substantial capacity expansion.

For FY2025-26, the headline numbers are clear: ₹5,815.76 crore in profit after tax, ₹2,112.12 crore in total dividend and ₹1,083.06 crore accruing to the Government of India.
