Carcass Discovered Near Maharudrapur Beach; Repeated Incidents Raise Questions Over Marine Wildlife Protection

SEPTEMBER 25, 2026 , BALASORE: Concern over the safety of marine wildlife has resurfaced along the Balasore coast after another dead dolphin was found near Maharudrapur beach under Baripada panchayat in Bahanaga block.
The dolphin carcass was noticed by local residents along the shoreline on Thursday afternoon. Following the discovery, villagers informed the Forest Department about the incident.
The latest case comes shortly after another dolphin was reportedly found dead near Talapada, putting two such incidents in focus within a short span of time along the coastal belt.
The repeated discovery of marine animal carcasses has prompted questions about the possible factors behind the deaths and the effectiveness of monitoring and protection measures for marine wildlife in the area.
At this stage, the exact cause of death has not been established. Officials would need to examine the carcass and relevant environmental circumstances before drawing any conclusion about whether the death was linked to natural causes, fishing-related activity, injury, illness or other factors.
