Family alleges sudden death of differently-abled elderly man followed injection administered during treatment; villagers demand impartial inquiry
GTNS , SEPTEMBER 18, 2026 ,PARADIP, ODISHA — Tension reportedly mounted at the Dinkia Community Health Centre near Paradip following the death of an elderly differently-abled man during treatment, with his family alleging that his condition deteriorated suddenly after an injection was administered at the health facility.
The deceased has been identified as Babaji Mallik of Dinkia village.
According to the family, Mallik had gone to the health centre after developing what they described as a mild fever. They said he was in a normal condition when he arrived and had even driven himself to the health facility.
The family has alleged that after a doctor administered an injection along with saline, Mallik’s condition suddenly worsened. Despite efforts to treat him, his condition reportedly deteriorated rapidly and he died within a short period.
FAMILY QUESTIONS TREATMENT
The circumstances surrounding the sudden death have raised questions among the family and local residents.
Relatives have alleged that there was a direct connection between the administration of the injection and the sudden deterioration in Mallik’s condition. However, the exact medical cause of death has not been independently established, and the allegation requires investigation by the competent authorities.
The family has called for the treatment records, medicines administered and other relevant medical details to be examined as part of an impartial inquiry.
ALLEGATIONS OVER COMMUNICATION AFTER DEATH
The family has also raised questions over the communication from the health centre following the incident.
According to relatives, they were contacted and informed that the patient’s condition had become serious and that he needed to be shifted immediately to Cuttack.
The family and villagers subsequently reached the health centre, where they reportedly found that Mallik had already died.
Relatives have alleged that the circumstances of the death were not communicated to them transparently at the initial stage. These claims have added to the tension at the health centre.
VILLAGERS REACH HEALTH CENTRE, POLICE INFORMED
Following the death, family members and villagers gathered at the health centre and reportedly protested over the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The situation created tension at the facility, following which police were informed.
The family and local residents have demanded that the circumstances leading to Mallik’s death be investigated independently and that all relevant medical records and treatment details be examined.
DEMAND FOR IMPARTIAL INVESTIGATION
The deceased’s family and villagers have sought a fair investigation to establish what happened between Mallik’s arrival at the health centre and his death.
Their demands include examination of the injection and medicines administered during treatment, medical records, the treatment procedure followed by the health staff and the sequence of events preceding his death.
They have also demanded appropriate legal action if an official investigation establishes negligence or any violation of medical procedure.
CAUSE OF DEATH AWAITING ESTABLISHMENT
At this stage, the allegation of a wrong injection or medical negligence remains a claim made by the deceased’s family and local residents. The precise medical cause of death has not been established through an independent investigation or publicly disclosed medical findings.
The circumstances surrounding the death will therefore be central to any official inquiry.
The incident has nevertheless raised concerns among residents about patient safety, emergency treatment procedures and communication with families at public health facilities.
For the family of Babaji Mallik, the immediate demand is for transparency and accountability. For the authorities, the key task will be to establish the facts through a proper investigation and determine whether any medical or procedural lapse occurred.
