2013-batch officer’s exit from IPS takes effect from September 11; Meena had served as Bhubaneswar DCP
GTNS , SEPTEMBER 17, 2026 , BHUBANESWAR — The resignation of 2013-batch Odisha-cadre IPS officer Jagmohan Meena, who served as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Bhubaneswar, has been formally accepted at the Centre, bringing his nearly 13-year career in the Indian Police Service to an end.
According to the latest information, the resignation took effect from September 11, 2026.
Meena had submitted his resignation from the All India Services earlier this year, citing personal reasons. At the time, he said the decision followed discussions with his family and friends and requested that his privacy be respected. He also said the decision was not prompted by external pressure.
The resignation had first been accepted at the state level in August, after which the Odisha government forwarded the necessary No Objection Certificate (NOC) and related documents to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs for further processing.
Meena took charge as Bhubaneswar DCP in February 2025, after serving in several important policing assignments in Odisha. His previous postings included Superintendent of Police in Malkangiri, Angul and Ganjam, besides serving as DCP of Cuttack.
An alumnus of IIT Kanpur, Meena holds B.Tech and M.Tech degrees in Aerospace Engineering. Government records identify him as a 2013-batch, Odisha-cadre IPS officer.
When his resignation became public in July, Meena said he had completed nearly 13 years in the IPS and had taken the decision after long-term consideration. He did not disclose his future plans.
With the resignation now taking effect, Meena formally exits the IPS after a career that included policing responsibilities across several districts and major urban assignments in Odisha.
The development marks a change in the state’s senior police leadership landscape as the former Bhubaneswar DCP moves on from government service.
