Beneficiary women called to join statewide lamp-lighting; districts prepare rangoli, competitions and community celebrations for Subhadra Divas
GTNS ,SEPTEMBER 16, 2026 ,BHUBANESWAR: Odisha is preparing for a statewide celebration of Subhadra Divas on Thursday, with the two-year milestone of the Subhadra Yojana set to be marked through a distinctive combination of household participation and district-level programmes.
The central feature of the celebration will take place at 6:30 PM, when Subhadra beneficiary women have been invited to light lamps at their homes.
The call is expected to turn the anniversary into a common statewide moment, with individual households becoming part of the wider celebration.
A LAMP IN EVERY HOME
Unlike a conventional government programme centred on a single venue, this year’s Subhadra Diwas is being connected directly with beneficiary households.
At the designated time of 6:30 PM, women covered under the scheme have been encouraged to light lamps at home.
The initiative gives the anniversary a community character, linking beneficiaries across villages, towns and cities through a shared activity.
DISTRICTS PREPARE THEIR OWN CELEBRATIONS
The celebration will not remain limited to the household lamp-lighting.

TWO YEARS OF SUBHADRA
Subhadra was launched by the Odisha government in September 2024 as a flagship women-focused welfare programme.
Under the scheme’s framework, eligible women receive ₹10,000 annually for five years, paid in two instalments, making the total assistance ₹50,000 over five years, subject to the scheme’s eligibility conditions.
The state government has described Subhadra as a programme aimed at strengthening women’s financial support and empowerment.
THE SCHEME’S REACH
The programme has expanded considerably since its launch.
The Odisha Chief Minister’s Office reported in January 2026 that more than one crore beneficiaries had received over ₹15,000 crore in assistance under the scheme at that point.
The government subsequently announced the fifth instalment of Subhadra assistance in August 2026, with its communications again placing women’s economic self-reliance at the centre of the programme.
The scale of participation gives this year’s anniversary a statewide dimension rather than making it only an institutional milestone.
FROM FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
The two-year celebration adds a different dimension to the scheme’s journey.
The financial component remains the foundation of Subhadra, but the anniversary programme is being organised around direct participation by women beneficiaries.
